A West Virginia native, he graduated from St. Albans High School in 1964, West Virginia University, and Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1969. A past president of many civic organizations, a member, deacon, and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksburg. Married to Kandace Clark Atkinson, a retired teacher, they are the parents of two children, Kara A. Colucci of Virginia and James D. (Jamie) Atkinson of Mannington WV.   Denver and Kandace have been residents of Nutter Fort since 1974.

Mazzie, Sr. and Mary L. (Roveto) Mazzie of Clarksburg, WV. He attends St. James Catholic Church in Northview and has been Liturgical musician (Organist) for over 39 years.
